Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Case Study
Perfection Fresh is Australia’s largest privately owned fresh produce business. Since 1978, the company has been on a mission to discover the world's tastiest fruit and vegetables, and bring them back to Australia to grow, perfect, share, and enjoy. A family-owned and operated business, Perfection Fresh employs more than 500 people and works with farmers across Australia to grow 52 varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables, including exclusive products such as broccolini, Kumato tomatoes, Calypso mangos, and Qukes baby cucumbers.
Perfection Fresh is responsible for growing, harvesting, packing, and distributing thousands of tons of produce each year and relies on its operational systems running reliably 24/7 in order to do so. The perishable nature of Perfection Fresh’s work means that as soon as their crops are harvested, they begin to perish, meaning that any disruption in their management systems negatively impacts their bottom line. Perfection Fresh’s mission-critical operational systems were approaching end-of-life and so they were faced with the challenge of looking for a new platform that could meet the availability, reliability, and performance needs they required.
Originally, Perfection Fresh had planned on replacing their three-tier infrastructure with something exactly the same, but MOQdigital introduced them to a Lenovo ThinkAgile VX hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solution.
The Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series combines robust Lenovo servers with VMware vSAN® and VMware vSphere® software to deliver a single pool of virtualized computer and storage resources.
Working with MOQdigital, Perfection Fresh deployed four all-flash Lenovo ThinkAgile VX3320 appliances in a high availability stretch cluster across two geographically dispersed Equinix data centers in Sydney and helped the company to establish a long-term backup environment in a third location at its headquarters.
Fully managed by MOQdigital, Perfection Fresh’s IT infrastructure is now simpler, easier to manage, and easier to scale. Tight integration between the Lenovo XClarity Integrator and VMware vCenter® tools deliver a single pane of glass for easy management of virtualized resources. Perfection Fresh also takes advantage of VMware vCenter® Lifecycle Manager™ to manage updates, upgrades, and patching—all without any downtime.
“We have lots of exciting plans for the future. Backed by the rock-solid Lenovo ThinkAgile VX platform, we can keep operations running reliably while exploring new ways to bring flavoursome fresh produce to customers.”
